Giving & Stewardship
Stewardship is an ancient concept, often used these days when speaking about the environment. More broadly, a steward is a person who is responsible for someone else’s property, finances, or affairs. In the church, speaking of stewardship reminds us that everything we have is a gift from God. It also encourages us to dedicate part of our time and resources to support the work and life of the church.
All Christians are called to give a portion of their time, talent, and treasure toward the work of God. The best way to give to St. John’s Church is to become involved with one of our specific ministries and to make a financial pledge. The pledge is a prayerful statement of intent, not a legal obligation, and as such, it may be changed as your circumstances change.
Every year the members of St. John’s Church are asked to make a pledge to the General Fund. Those joining St. John’s during the year may pledge at any time by filling out a pledge card and returning it to the parish office. Pledges can be paid weekly, monthly, or annually, in cash, by check, or with the gift of appreciated stock. The size of the pledge is less important than your willingness to commit financially towards the support of God’s work at St. John’s Church.
Once you pledge, you will receive an acknowledgement letter from the Financial Administrator. All households will receive quarterly reports and a year-end tax statement summarizing all of your giving to St. John’s. If you choose to fulfill your pledge through cash gifts, please use envelopes with your name, so that your gift may be recorded.
Any person who has provided for St. John’s by will or other form of planned gift is eligible for membership in The 1835 Society. Please let the Parish Administrator know if you would like more information about the 1835 Society.
In addition to pledges to the General Fund, St. John’s welcomes gifts to the Day Camp, Outreach, and the Flower, Memorial, and Preservation Funds.
