Aging in Place

Since 2011, St. John's Aging in Place group (AiP) has offered practical information on local services, health and wellness advice, spiritual reflections, and lighthearted entertainment to older and not-so-old parishioners and their friends and neighbors, including those from nearby parishes. Alcoholics Anonymous
Altar Guild

Altar Guild members care for the linens and prepare the altar for services Contacts: Billy Wresch

Blood Drive

Give the gift of blood – hosted twice a year. Contact: Connie Olson

Blue Theology

The Blue Theology Group partners with local educational organizations focused on marine biology. Hands-on projects include beach clean ups, oyster gardening, and scientific data collection. Contact: Billy Wresch or Jesse Lebus

Buildings & Grounds

Grow to Give Garden

St_Johns_Seal-2The History Committee of St. John's Church is a study group which meets periodically to research and discuss the history of the parish and the community of Cold Spring Harbor. The Committee spearheaded the effort to restore the "Founders" graveyard above the church.


The Hospitality Team organizes refreshments for Coffee Hour each Sunday following the 10:00 a.m. service, Lemonade on the Lawn during the summer, special events, receptions and celebrations. We keep the kitchen stocked and organized for church fellowship events. Please volunteer to host a Coffee Hour. You will find it an easy and fun way to offer hospitality to parishioners and our guests. Contacts: Seamus Mitchell and Winn Keaton


The House Committee assists with the improvement and upkeep of the interior of the buildings. Contact: Samantha Gellert

New Member Ministries

The New Member Ministries group sponsors special events and programs for integrating new members into the life of the parish. Contact: M.L. Citrino

Nominating for Vestry

The Committee welcomes suggestions for candidates from members of the parish. The basic requirements to be considered for a three-year term on the Vestry include: having been baptized, regular attendance at Sunday services and active financial support of St. John’s. In addition, a warden must be confirmed in the Episcopal Church. Please verify your candidate’s interest before contacting a member of the Nominating Committee. If you have any questions, please contact Andy Mahder or one of the members of the nominating committee, either of the Wardens, or the rector.

Office Volunteers

Office Volunteers help with a variety of tasks, including reception, phones, computers, printing, mailings, and office coverage in the Parish Administrator's absence. Contact: Sue Waiter

Parish Archives & Library

The Parish Archivist accessions and files various church documents and photos from 1831 to the present; our librarian accessions new books and organizes our library collections. Contact: Herman Heinemann

Pew Books

The Pew Books Committee ensures that the Hymnals and Prayer Books are in good order and supply in the church. Contact: Jo Alfenito
