Programs for Children & Youth
Holy Eucharist or Morning Prayer is at the center of our Sunday mornings. Christian education for everyone flows into and out of the worship experience. Our primary “textbooks” are the Bible and the Prayer Book. We use Living the Good News, a curriculum which follows the liturgical and scriptural progression of the church year.
Children begin Sunday School at age three and move up a grade each fall as in weekday school. Different approaches and thematic elements for each grade engage the children as they grow up. Classes meet on the second floor of the Parish Hall in designated classrooms, the Sherwood Room, and the Lee Room.
Key to Christian Education at St. John’s is the dedication and participation of parish adults. Parishioners serve on teaching teams and balance teaching duties with time for themselves in worship. A sound curriculum, ample supplies, regular teacher meetings, occasional workshops and experienced clergy/lay support are offered to help teachers feel confident and prepared.
