Holy Smokes BBQ A Great Sucess | St. John's Episcopal Church

On Sunday, September 10, 2023, St. John's kicked off its program year with a beautiful day of worship and fellowship.

The Choirs returned from their summer break relaxed, refreshed, and renewed. The church was pleasantly full. And the hospitality committee threw a great pot-luck lunch for the whole congregation.

Special thanks to Winn Keaten and Anna Wresch, our hospitality chairs, as well as to Seamus Mitchell and Peter Charles, who staffed our grills. It was a great event, and all in attendance were well-fed and enjoyed themselves.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
