Oyster Gardening Signup | St. John's Episcopal Church

Are you interested in becoming an oyster gardener in 2021? This crucial work is helping to raise awareness of water quality issues on Long Island and begins the work of cleaning our water. Friends of the Bay and the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor Protection committee are gearing up for another year!

There are a couple of ways you can get involved:

Sponsor your own floating oyster cage: Sign up here. There are a number of locations, but St. John's will be having our cages at the Laurel Hollow Beach. When you sign up, forward your confirmation to [email protected] to be included in the St. John's Oyster group.
Help to maintain St. John's Cages: Cleanings will be every other Saturday at the Laurel Hollow beach. Stay tuned for the sign up.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
