A Short Garden update! | St. John's Episcopal Church

The harvest is slowing down, but there are still a few plants that are producing: tomatoes, kale and peppers are coming along. I’m also looking forward to a fall harvest of radishes in a couple of weeks.

We are turning our attention to fall plantings: broccoli rabe and cover crops are going in. Soon it will be time for garlic!

Work periods will continue on Tuesdays and Saturdays, but we are shortening the window to 8:30 to 10 on Saturdays and 5-6 on Tuesdays. This reflects the reality of how long we’ve actually been staying. You can still sign up HERE.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
