Harbor Road Burying Ground

Please join us for our annual clean-up of our historic Burying Ground on Harbor Road on Saturday, November 9th from 2 pm - 4 pm. This annual clean-up will focus on leaf blowing and removing debris and sticks.

Gloves, long pants, long sleeve shirts, and ear protection are strongly encouraged. If you have a leaf blower of any size, please bring it and join in this reverent activity as we care for and remember with dignity all those buried in the unmarked graves of the burying ground.

Parking will be on the lawn above the rectory parallel to Harbor Road. No sign-up is needed and very light refreshments will be provided.

We have changed the date because the leaves are not quite finished falling. Please join us on 11/9 instead!

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
