St John's Church
On Sunday, February 2, 2025, St. John’s Clergy and Choir will present a special evening service of Evensong, also known as Sung Evening Prayer.
Evensong is a cherished tradition in the Episcopal Church, rooted in the cathedral and collegiate choral practices of the English church. Offered daily in some places and regularly in others, it is the sung counterpart to Morning Prayer. This service includes beautifully sung canticles—the Song of Mary (Magnificat) and the Song of Simeon (Nunc Dimittis)—as well as sung suffrages, collects, hymns, spoken prayers, and readings.
Evensong is a brief, sermon-free, and contemplative service, offering a peaceful opportunity to reflect and give thanks for the blessings of the day while anticipating the blessings to come. Many in England travel long distances to experience this unique form of worship, and we are delighted to bring this offering to our community in honor of the feast of Candlemas.
We invite you to join us for this meaningful and reflective service!
