Concerts by the Pond Season Opens with Sylvan Winds
Saturday, November 21st was a banner day for Concerts by the Pond and music at St. John's Church. One of New York's finest chamber music groups, Sylvan Winds opened the 10th Anniversary season with a stunningly beautiful program of Gilded Age music, transcribed for woodwind quintet. It was an evening of firsts, including the first evening concert in the series' 10-year history, and first fully-ticket event.
The concert was preceded by a special donor reception to celebrate the kick-off of the 10th Anniversary season. This event celebrated the successful funding campaign for the expanded season of six concerts and the new "Behind the Music" educational series. Terrific food and fellowship combined with the virtuosic playing of jazz pianist, and St. John's Huntington Music Director, Alex Pryrodny set the tone for what was best described by Sylvan bassoonist, Gina Cuffari as "electric."
Thank you to the artists, audience, donors, and concert committee for your support and hard work in making opening night such a tremendous success.
And if you missed the first concert, you need not wait long for the next. November 18 and 19 we welcome soprano, Mary Wilson and pianist Tim McReynolds to St. John's. Mary and Tim will kick-off our educational series with a FREE public masterclass on November 18 at 2 pm. Get to know the artists as they work with several local college students, young professionals, and Oyster Bay Music Festival alumni. This is a great way to learn about the hard work and details that artists work-through on their professional journey.
Then join Mary and Tim as well as violinist Gergana Haralampieva and flutist Lisa Westervelt for and an exciting concert of music by Bach, Handel, Haydn, and Mozart on Sunday November 19 at 3 pm. General admission tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for students and can be purchased in advance by visiting our third-party ticketing site.
