Episcopal Ministries Helps Provide a Lifeline

Pre-pandemic community meals at Church of the Redeemer in Astoria were a time to come together and celebrate at the “Restaurant of the Lord”. It was an opportunity to eat, embrace, socialize, and sometimes even dance together. Because of COVID restrictions, the “Restaurant of the Lord” had to be contained to a Cajita para Llevar (take out box) - but the connection and support remained. And with help from an EMLI grant, regular grocery deliveries were added for those who needed a little help to get by.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
