Flowering Cross | St. John's Episcopal Church

St. John’s is seeking to revive an old tradition of community construction of a flowering cross.

We know that it is very early spring, but if you have anything cuttable in your garden that you are willing to share and add to our flowering cross for Easter, please bring it with you to church and add it to the cross!

The cross will be outside the doors of the church before all three Easter Sunday services.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.
