Fourth of July! | St. John's Episcopal Church

The Cold Spring Harbor community Fourth of July Parade will take place as usual on Tuesday, July 4th. Traditionally, people gather at the top of Snake Hill Road at 10:15 am. It is charmingly informal as the residents are the parade. Kids are encouraged to decorate their bikes and wagons in patriotic colors (but no motorized vehicles please). Dogs on leashes are welcome. After the casual parade, a neighbor will make a short address and there will be and Ice Cream truck selling treats.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.
