Greening of the Church & Festive Fun | St. John's Episcopal Church

Saturday, Dec 16, 3 pm

The whole parish family is invited to help prepare the church for Christmas at our annual "Greening of the Church." Many hands of all ages are needed to decorate the sanctuary with wreaths, trees, and our Christmas creche.

This year, we are inviting parishioners to bring their favorite Christmas Cookies to share with each other and we will provide Cider and Hot Cocoa. Together we will decorate, sing and enjoy each other's company as we prepare the church for Lessons and Carols and the Christmas services. No need to RSVP, just come on along!

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
