Grow-to-Give Garden Work | St. John's Episcopal Church

Hello Friends of the Garden!

Our first weekend of socially-distanced work periods was a great success. Thanks to Anna Wresch, Dick and Barry Grace, Joe and Ben Bonventre, and Seamus and Owen Mitchell for your work this week. We were able to do some major weeding in the cut-flower garden and the paths, reinforce the fence from rabbits and groundhogs, sift some compost and harvest a very modest crop of radishes.

This coming week we have some seedlings to get in the ground, some woodchips to put down, and everyone’s favorite activity: weeding!

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
