Holiday Music In Full Swing at St. John’s
Music at St. John’s has charged full-speed into this holiday season. Last weekend we hosted our very first Messiah Sing with orchestra, soloists, and nearly 100 people in attendance raising our collective voices as a community for a cause. To say that the afternoon was a tremendous success would be an understatement. Community members and guests from several neighboring churches around the area joined us on the festive afternoon - that supported our Outreach partners.
The electricity in the building was something you had to witness. A very special thank you to all who attended, especially our Chancel Choir, who were tremendous hosts for this special event!
If you missed the Messiah sing and don’t want to wait a year for your fill of holiday music – this weekend gives you a chance to listen, and even participate, in the next two big music events.
First, Saturday at 8 pm Concerts by the Pond hosts the Long Island Chamber Music Brass and our own Dr. Carol Weitner in an amazing program of holiday brass and organ music. The players in this brass quintet have performed with several of the leading orchestras in the country and in several Broadway pit orchestras. You can’t go wrong on Saturday, as this concert may very well rival if not surpass the energy of the Messiah sing. Fewer than 60 seats remain. Don’t be left in the cold – get your tickets today!
And last but certainly not least, this year’s Festival of Lessons and Carols will take place during the 10 am service on Sunday, December 17th. This service features all of our choirs in a service of music and scripture. It is not too late if you want to jump into the Chancel Choir - as I say there is always a folder and robe! We are having a special Sunday rehearsal on December 10, immediately following the pageant rehearsal from about 11:30-1 pm. If you would like to participate, see me after church.
I look forward to seeing you at all of these upcoming musical events.
