Jesus is Lord
In ancient times the early church used to declare boldly that "Jesus is Lord." To them, that declaration meant that Jesus had power over all spheres of life as shown in the Gospels: illness, life, death, nature - all creation is within the scope of his healing power.
This week as we all experienced the terrifying majesty of a great storm, I found myself thinking, hoping, and putting my trust in the fact that in even this moment Jesus is lord. To me, that means that I can trust that in the midst of all of this - storms, coronavirus, economic uncertainty and growing political and racial uncertainty - Jesus is with me. Jesus is holding me in prayer. Jesus is working God's purpose out in us and through us. And no fear, anxiety, or hope, puts us beyond the reach of his loving and saving gaze.
Perhaps in the midst of these time, it might buoy your heart to put your faith in this simple phrase: "I believe that Jesus is Lord."
