Josie Greco - An Appreciation
Many who joined us for church on Sunday either in person or online will have heard by now that our beloved Children's Worship Leader and volunteer children’s choir leader Josephine Greco is leaving her employment at St. John’s. She has decided to focus on returning to the classroom as a teacher in the public schools and her vocation as a parent. This is hard news for all of us to receive, but we are comforted to know that Josie will remain in the parish family as a beloved parishioner.
When I arrived at St. John’s 5 years ago and began meeting the staff, it became abundantly clear that our music team had an incredible treasure in Josie Greco. Not only is Josie a talented musician and an incredible vocalist, but her rapport with children and her kindness to all was visible even on our first meeting.
Over the years that we have worked together my admiration for Josie has only grown.
It is impossible in this space to thank Josie adequately for all that she has given to St. John’s over her 16+ years of ministry with us, but the generations of children she has nurtured in the love of song and the love of the Lord with kindness stand as a witness to her vocations of music and disciple making. All of us will miss her gracious and inclusive musical leadership that was able to coax a joyful noise out of even the shyest and most reluctant singers. Additionally, we have been blessed on countless occasions by her own vocal leadership and musical offerings - especially in this late phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Josie, on behalf of the whole church please accept our deepest thanks for all your dedicated years of service to St. John’s and also our deep appreciation for the ways you have shaped the faith and lives of our children over the past 16+ years.
Your appreciative colleague in ministry,
Gideon
