Julia Whitworth Elected Bishop of Massachusetts on 4th Ballot
The Rev. Julia Whitworth, Rector of Trinity Church Indianapolis, was elected the 17th Bishop of Massachusetts on Saturday, May 19, 2024 after 4 ballots. The Very Rev. Gideon Pollach was the second-place finisher. The Rev. Whitworth will be ordained bishop in October of this year.
The election concluded a busy period of prayerful preparation and travel for all the candidates.
Gideon said of the election: “I want to congratulate Julia on her election to be the next Bishop of Massachusetts. During this process, I have come to know Julia as a deeply faithful person with incredible gifts for ministry. I wish her and the diocese of Massachusetts all the very best as you seek to follow God together and live into your vocation to be disciples of Jesus, seek justice for all, and care for creation.
“I will be praying for you all and watching God at work among you with great love.”
He added: "Many thanks to all those, particularly those from St. John's, who have reached out in support. Sarah and I are blessed to be able to live and work in such a beautiful and loving community. We thank God for you all."
