Lent 2022! | St. John's Episcopal Church

In the spirit of Lent, the Parish Family of St. John's Church invites you to take part in the following opportunities for spiritual renewal:

Sanctuary open for prayer Sunday to Thursday 9:30 am - 3pm: The sanctuary will be open for private prayer and devotion with the addition of candles as an aid for focus and devotion. Beeswax tapers and a luminaria will be available in the altar area for prayer.
Morning Prayer Monday to Friday at 9:30: Morning Prayer will be offered online led by clergy and staff on Zoom and Facebook. Parishioners are invited to join from home or work.
Centering Prayer Wednesdays at 7:45 pm: Centering prayer will be offered before "Reading and Writing a Rule of Life" on Zoom. All are welcome to join, even if they don't stay for the study.
Compline Wednesdays at 8:55 pm: Compline will be offered on Zoom for those who want to end their night in quiet devotion and prayer. Compline will be led by volunteer worship leaders.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
