Looking forward | St. John's Episcopal Church

I don't know what your week has been like, but over here on the shore of St. John's Pond this week has been a week of recovery and looking forward.

The staff participated in our eagerly awaited fall planning meeting. The Vestry met to discern our path forward for the near term. Mary Beth installed new furniture in the Godly Play children's chapel. Jun has been busy meeting with choir-members and interested parishioners to discern a path forward for our music ministry.

Even in these moments when so much seems so confused, we move forward in faith together.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
