Meditation Garden Work Begins! | St. John's Episcopal Church

The first phase of work on the long-planned meditation garden is the clearing of trees and plants in preparation for re-grading of the area. That tree clearing work will begin on Friday, September 15th. We expect it to be complete in a couple of days so that we can begin the harder work of re-engineering the slopes and the hillside in advance of construction and planting this fall.

There are still opportunities to support this exciting project. Due to the extended length of the permitting process, some pledged funds are no longer available to the church. News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.
