Meditation Garden Event - May 1
On Sunday May 1, after the church’s Annual Meeting, there will be a reception and fund-raising event to help fund St. John’s Meditation Garden. At that time, we will learn a bit more about the progress that has been made and have the opportunity to “adopt” a tree, shrub or plant. Donations to sponsor the pavilion, garden bridge and entrance arbor will also be gratefully received. A donor has generously offered to match all parishioner gifts up to $25,000. Any parishioners unable to attend, and who wishes to donate for this project, are invited to do so by sending contributions directly to St. John’s, with Meditation Garden on the memo line.
Last November, the church dedicated the grounds for the garden in the area behind the church, adjacent to the pond and continuing up the hill from the bluestone patio, as a sanctuary; a place to find solitude, peace and comfort. It follows a path to a small pavilion overlooking the pond, then winds up the hill, becoming less formal until it transitions into the undeveloped woods. Current invasive species will be removed and be replaced with appropriate plantings. In conjunction with the church’s blue-green theology initiative, native plants will be incorporated, as well as consideration for wildlife habitats. For small group use, a grassy gathering circle will be located near the entrance to the garden. The project has moved forward with approval and support of St. John’s Vestry. We plan that the garden will be completed by next fall. When, St. John’s will have a garden of beauty; a garden that is quiet, intimate and serene; an outdoor sanctuary for the soul.
Your generous support would be greatly appreciated.
