The St. John’s Memorial Cemetery Committee is pleased to share with the church community updated guidelines for the planning, planting and caring of plots. The guidelines can be found here at this LINK (add link to rules) or through our website at Memorial Cemetery of St. John's Church.
As stewards of our beautiful and historic cemetery, gifted by the Jones family in 1862 and designed in part by the Olmsted firm beginning 1912, it is our responsibility to maintain the integrity of this important landscape. To develop these guidelines, the cemetery committee worked with Heritage Landscapes, a preservation landscape firm with experience in the design and restoration of Olmsted properties. These new measures will assist us and the families in the thoughtful and careful development of their individual plots so that the cemetery as a whole follows the Olmsted brothers’ vision.
The committee is also in the planning stages of a new columbarium to accommodate the future needs of the cemetery. Working with Heritage Landscapes on this project, the design of new columbarium will be in keeping with the Olmsted vocabulary in terms of siting, detailing, materials and plantings.
