Memorial Concert For Irene Gubrud Finch
The life of Irene Gubrud Finch will be celebrated at a concert at St. John’s Church on All Saints Sunday, November 7, at 3:00 pm.
Irene, an internationally known singer and voice and meditation teacher, wife of Music Director Emeritus Steven Finch and a devoted member of the St. John's Parish Family for many years, passed away a year ago on November 3, 2020.
Musicians will be coming from around the nation to honor her life. These will include one of the premiere instrumental ensembles in this country, the American Brass Quintet, which is in residence at the Aspen Music Festival as was Irene, playing Renaissance and contemporary pieces. Three singers, Alison Trainer, Dana Vachharajani and Abigail Fischer, all former students of Irene and well known performers who have sung here and with the Huntington Choral Society, will sing solos, a duet and a trio. They will be accompanied by the accomplished pianist, Christine Doré. The young piano prodigy, Maxim Lando, will perform a piece by Brahms in a video tribute to Irene. Carol Weitner, organist at St. John’s will play two major pieces by Bach. Jennifer Miceli will conduct members of St. John’s Adult Choir and the Huntington Choral Society in singing Beautiful Savior, which traditionally ended concerts by the St. Olaf College Choir.
The concert is free and open to the public. A reception in Bleecker hall will follow the concert to which all are invited.
