Memorial Day Observance at St. John's Church | St. John's Episcopal Church

Sunday, May 27
Following the 8 am and 10 am Services

In honor of all who serve our country, there will be a special outdoor liturgy at the conclusion of the 8 am and 10 am services. The congregation will exit the Church and gather at the flag pole for a reading of the Gettysburg Address and singing of America the Beautiful.

The Church offices will be closed on Monday, May 28 and there will be no Rector's Bible Study meeting.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
