POND EDGE WORK
Many of you regularly ask about the status of the Weir, Dam and Pond Edge.
The Vestry approved in September the formation of a committee to study the issues of repair and replacement of the failing Pond Edge near the church, the Weir, the wooden structure that regulates water levels in the pond, which is aging and possibly failing, and the earthen dam, which holds back the pond.
After two meetings, the Committee recommended to the Vestry that we:
- Continue to explore the replacement of the Dam with possible support from federal agencies and partner institutions
- Make it a priority to repair the weir soon to gain time to continue studying possible dam replacement.
- Fix the pond edge as soon as possible.
To that end, the vestry approved replacing the pond edge this winter. We are currently studying several proposals for replacement and expect to award a contract shortly. We are also in the process of applying for permits to repair the pond edge in the very near future.
This work will be done before any repairs on the weir or dam because of the potentially catastrophic failure of the pond edge if we wait.
