Quam Dilecta: St. John's Day 2018
"How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord of hosts!
My soul longs, indeed it faints
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh sing for joy
to the living God."
These familiar words are the opening lines of our favorite psalm, Psalm 84. They describe the beauty of life in the temple and the experience of salvation offered by God - even to the sparrows who nest by the altars of God.
They also accurately describe the beauty and inclusivity of worship at St. John's and the joy of our fellowship in community.
This St. John's Day was a joyous and spirit filled day of celebration. We celebrated our anniversary. We celebrated the whole family of the church from children to the most senior. And we also said good-bye to beloved parishioners Janet and John Stevenson.
This St. John's Day reminded me that the church is built continually on the strength of the past for the church of the future. This church has an amazingly strong foundation on which to build our future together. God has blessed us with incredible strength and missional clarity. Our church is a blessing to our community, our town and our region and it is a joy to share it together.
