Seeing God in all Creation: The Church and the Environment

Epiphany is about the appearance of God around us - discovering God in all creation. Even the liturgical color of Epiphany is green. Many people find they connect most deeply to God through nature. Many are also concerned about the future health of our planet. But, how many of us are familiar with the churches' teachings on creation care? Join the clergy for a last week of this four-week course on the Christian witness on the stewardship of creation. Readings will be distributed in advance of each session online.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
