Spring is Coming
Dear Friends,
In ancient times, and even in some modern churches, this Sunday has been known as “Refreshment Sunday.” Refreshment Sunday was a day to relax lenten devotions - within reason- as the church pushes through towards Holy Week and Easter.
Traditionally we have marked this Sunday with our lenten children’s musical, either Stone Soup or the Tale of the Three Trees. This year, due to the challenges of the pandemic Stone Soup has been postponed to Youth Sunday, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t still appreciate the chance to refresh our minds and souls as we round the corner towards Easter.
This week I have given thanks for the unseasonably warm weather that has refreshed my soul as we look to the durable coming of spring. I have also spent more time in prayer with friends from church and friends new to me who I have gotten to know through church. These spiritual friendships have also been a support in these beautiful days. Finally, I have noticed in my family a new excitement for the coming of spring and the warm days ahead. All of us are hoping for a renewing spring and a joyous summer after a long cold winter.
I hope that you have found ways and reasons to refresh your heart and your spirit in this holy season.
Gideon
PS: Don't forget to set your clocks to "spring forward" this Sunday. it's Daylight Savings Time!
