St. Matthias Fellowship — Education Matters
The most important question we are regularly asked from long-time St. Matthias Fellowship committee members is, “Are the children at St. Matthias back at school?”
It is the question that matters most as at the core of our mission is to help educate the children at St. Matthias. Indeed, the 2024-25 school year is up and running and the children are back on the campus. Getting the school year started is no small task. But thankfully, with support from St. John’s, the efforts of Pr. Michaud, and the contributions from the community, the mission continues.
With that said, time seems to stand still in Haiti, as the challenges our partners face persist year after year. When reviewing the situation in Deslandes, it would be easy to feel discouraged by the lack of progress. Yet, amidst the ongoing gang violence, drought, and economic instability, there remains a steadfast spirit of resilience and hope.
In our recent conversation with Pastor Michaud, he expressed deep gratitude for the support of St. John's Church. Despite the precarious security situation spreading even to the outskirts of Deslandes, the children of St. Matthias remain safe and well. This is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our partners on the ground.
Our contribution of $12,000 for the 2024-2025 school year, ensures that the teachers can continue providing quality education to the students. In a time of profound hardship, this school serves as a beacon of stability and opportunity for the families of Deslandes.
As we reflect on the situation in Haiti, we are reminded of the power of perseverance. While the headlines may be bleak, our partners at St. Matthias embody an indomitable spirit. The children continue to learn, grow, and experience the joys of childhood, even in the face of immense challenges.
It is this spirit of perseverance that we must seek to emulate. Just as our partners at St. Matthias persist in their mission, we too must stand steadfast in our support. Your contributions, both financial and spiritual, are a lifeline for this community. They take comfort in the knowledge that they are not alone, that we walk alongside them through these trials.
In closing, we are reminded of the words of Pr. Michaud, who shared that one of the greatest fears of the St. Matthias community is the loss of our support. Now, more than ever, is the time for us to energetically persist alongside our partners. Their story is one of resilience, and it is our privilege to be a part of it.
Thank you for your continued support of the St. Matthias Fellowship. Together, we make a profound difference in the lives of these children and their community.
