Stone Soup Sunday | St. John's Episcopal Church

Sunday, March 11, we celebrated our annual Stone Soup Sunday. It began with our youngest members of the congregation performing the musical Stone Soup during the 10 am service. This service and performance were especially geared toward children and all enjoyed the wonderful performance.

Following the service, everyone gathered in Bleecker Hall for our Stone Soup Luncheon. This annual event was sponsored by the young members of St John's and the Outreach Committee. They worked together to provide a wholesome meal of veggie soup, a communal feast that grew out of many small contributions, to experience that every gift matters.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
