Sunday School - Week of Sept. 16, 2018
Sunday, September 16th, 2018 - Holy Eucharist
Greetings Sunday School Families
This coming week marks the beginning of our Sunday School year and I am more than excited to welcome you! We have a fun and formative year planned. We will continue to offer three classrooms on Sunday mornings: Nursery (0-3), Children's Chapel (4-8) and Elements of Faith (9-11). Elements of Faith students will start in the "big" church and follow me out before the sermon.
In October we will begin our Confirmation Class (12 & up) and introduce Wednesday programming to parrallel the youth choir. This means a weekly youth group to entertain and help form our kids - and a Parenting Round Table - where we can discuss and discover ways to be good Christian parents, without being (forgive me) wierd Christian parents.
Each week you can expect to receive the Cold Springer, updating you as to the weeks offerings, both in Sunday School and otherwise. I hope to offer reflections on the week's lessons and share curated bits of faith and fun that I have come across. If you have an inclination to join our volunteer group, please let me know.
Yours in Christ!
The Reverend Jesse Lebus
Children's Chapel
The Children's Chapel centers around a Godly Play Story: a creative and interactive way to share the traditions of our church and the Holy Scriptures. In this Montessori based method, children discover their own inherent spirituality and learn the words to express it. This week we introduce the class to the "Circle of the Church Year" and the benefits of a rythm whereby we encounter the story of God's people year after year, from Creation to Christmas and on to Pentecost. The seasons of the church year have colors and the craft will be to create green decorations and prayer leaves to suit the current season.
Elements of Faith
We are very excited to begin a new year with our Elements of Faith class. This class is perfectly suited for kids who are too old for Children's Chapel but who still love to be creative. The focus of this class is to deepen the student's understanding of the themes of our faith and the workings of our church. While this Sunday we will explore the lessons (Who is Jesus, anyway?) and help set up for the Holy Smokes BBQ, in the following weeks we will familiarize ourselves with the church - from the Narthex to the St. John window - and we will help build a Paschal Candle for the Children's Chapel. Paper Mache anyone?
