Terrabarium Project Breaks Ground
The management committee of the Memorial Cemetery of St. John's Church under the leadership of James Sanna and with the support of Cemetery Superintendent John Papa is excited to share the news that we have broken ground this week on an exciting building and landscaping project at the Cemetery.
Approved earlier this year, construction has begun on a new "terrabarium" which will allow for the interment of ashes in a new garden area very near the cemetery entrance. The project was designed in the Olmsted style by Heritage Landscapes, Inc of Charlotte, VT who have worked with the Cemetery Committee since Mary Lee Citrino's leadership of that Committee.
The project, once completed, will allow for the internment of up to 520 individual cremated remains in a beautiful garden setting. We expect the work to be completed by the late spring with the final setting of memorial plaques and the completion of necessary stone-work, but the vast majority of the plantings will be in place this fall.
This project is part of a long-range project to expand and remediate the historic beauty of the Olmsted design of the Cemetery under the guidance of some of the country's premier Olmsted experts. Questions about the project can be directed to any member of the Cemetery Committee who are: James Sanna, chair; Jeremy Bradford, Gideon Pollach and Billy Wresch, or to John Papa.
