At our last inspection, we saw that one of our hives was making moves to swarm. This happens when the bee population is booming and there isn't enough space fro the queen to lay. If you don't want to loose half your bees, you need to give your queen a new home. We split one of our hives into two, placing the queen in the new hive. Townsend Weeks generously set us up with a new hive. Back in the old hive, the worker bees will raise up a new queen.
We are now looking for volunteers to help with hive inspections over the summer. The hives are in the care of our Curate, The Rev. Mary Beth Mills-Curran and the direction of the diocesan beekeeper Caroline Cosgrove.
Be(e) careful as you near the hives!
