The Bells are Back! | St. John's Episcopal Church

Thanks to the hard work of our Curate, Mary Beth Mills Curran, and our Cemetery Superintendent, John Papa, the carillon bells at St. John's are back in working order!

Listen out as our bell tower serenades our village and harbor with a selection of hymn tunes three times a day at noon, 3 PM and 6 PM. When you hear them, know that St. John's is radiating God's love and invites you into a moment of prayer and thanksgiving for the abundant beauty, tranquility, and love that St. John's offers to our whole community.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
