Upcoming Outreach Events
Community Solidarity
Every week Community Solidarity assists thousands of families in low-income communities across Long Island by sharing free nutritious vegetarian groceries and hot gourmet vegan meals. They distribute food that would otherwise go to waste, repurposing excess inventory from local retail vendors. Their mission is to lessen the stresses of poverty while building a more sustainable, mutually supportive community.
The Huntington Food Share is located at the intersection of Fairground Ave & E. 6th Street, and operates every Tuesday night. Volunteers gather at 7pm to set up and the distribution of groceries begins at 8:15pm. Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, they have been using a drive-through format to keep people as safe as possible.
Volunteers are welcome every week and each month St. John’s Outreach plans a group night to attend together. The next planned group volunteering days are Tuesday, October 17th and Tuesday November 21st. We would love to see you there! Dress for the weather and wear work clothes — the food share operates rain or shine!

We will be collecting coats and warm weather accessories (scarves, hats, gloves/mittens) for men, women, and children again this November for the Gerald Ryan Outreach Center in Wyandoch. Please bring any new or gently used items to the church offices in a bag labeled for Gerald Ryan. We will collect donations from November 3rd-7th. On Election Day, November 7th, we will sort everything in the church for delivery. Adult and children volunteers are welcome to help with the sorting!

YFCA Adopt A Family
Once again this year, we will be partnering with the Youth and Family Counseling Agency of Oyster Bay-East Norwich to “adopt” families and provide gifts of wants and needs for the Holidays. As it gets closer to the time, we will be looking for parishioners to participate in both the giving and gift wrapping. Please watch ASJ for more information about how you can get involved, coming in November.
