Virtual Congregation Musical Offering
The Invitation:
For the 10 am worship service on Sunday, September 13th, “Virtual Congregation Singing” of “Praise, my soul, the King of heaven” will be offered as musical Offertory. In short, I will be producing a video that includes everyone at St. John’s singing the hymn, and present it as Offertory for the service. I reach out to you now with invitation to offer up your voice.
The Process:
1.View the YouTube video: https://youtu.be/gxAwNGVBVoo
2.Practice singing along with the video using headphones (words and music is included in the video)
3.When ready, record your singing using the video recording application on your computer, or your smartphone while listening to the YouTube video (making sure your face is clearly visible on the recording)
4.Once finished, upload your video onto Dropbox by 8:00 pm, Wednesday, September 9th using the link: https://www.dropbox.com/request/2il08bX3YGXDrVD8fOND
5.Join the 10 am worship service on Sunday, September 13th, and experience the completed video of Offertory.
The Music:
1982 Hymnal #410 “Praise, my soul, the King of heaven”, tune of Lauda anima
Things to keep in mind:
As this would be our first congregational musical offering, I list below some guidelines to help you through the process.
1.Use earphones
2.Record in “landscape” view
3.Select a “neutral” background (preferably in light color)
4.Use the singers in video as an example to position yourself in your video
5.Do your best to look directly into the camera and make sure your face is clearly visible
6.Avoid “distorted” and “inaudible” sounds in your video recording by adjusting the recording level of your recording device
7.Do your best to sing together with the singers in the video
8.My conducting will be edited out for the finished version
9.Be sure to SMILE
10.Please observe the deadline as compiling all the videos would take much time.
Lastly:
Please reach out to me with any questions, or concerns. Thank you so much for your contribution.
