Welcome Carolyn Lau, Flutist
Join us in welcoming Carolyn Lau this Sunday as she offers us a selection from the Sonata in E Minor, BWV 1034 by J. S. Bach.
Carolyn Lau is a sophomore at Herricks High School and currently studies flute with Judith Mendenhall and is a performer with the Oyster Bay Music Festival.
She will be attending the Juilliard Pre-College program in the Fall. She has performed as a soloist in 2020 with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York (MYO) as winner of their Concerto Competition.
Carolyn is a 2021 National YoungArts Winner in Classical Music, 1st Prize Winner of the Great Composers Winds and Percussion International Competition, 2nd Prize of the Island Symphony Orchestra Young Performers Competition, winner of the Tilles Scholar Award, and winner of the Nakamura Award for Outstanding Flutist. Carolyn has served as co-principal flute of the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College Philharmonic Orchestra and principal flute of the MYO Principal Orchestra. She was accepted into the 2020 BU Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Orchestra Program and will be attending the Eastern Music Festival this summer. Other festivals she has attended include the ARIA International Summer Academy, the Kinhaven Music School Senior Session, the Oyster Bay Music Festival, and the LIU Post Chamber Music Festival. She has also studied flute with Zara Lawler, Lauren Ausubel, and Susan Deaver.
Outside of music, Carolyn enjoys creative writing and playing volleyball for her club and school team.
